Celtics Roster

In years past the Celtics roster has contained some of the greatest names in basketball history. The players who have worn the green and white and called the Boston Garden their home court include some of the best the NBA has ever seen. For one, there is Bob Cousy, the Celtics' all-time assist leader with 6,955 and a 13-time NBA All-Star. Also, there is Bill Russell, a five-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a 12-time All-Star and more than 21,000 career rebounds. And who could forget the great Celtics of the 80s, including Hall of Famers Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish. Bird was a two-time NBA Finals MVP, a three-time league MVP, and retired with an average of 24.3 points per game. McHale was a seven-time All-Star and was the first player in NBA history to shoot 60% from the floor and 80% from the foul line in the same season, while Parrish ("The Chief" as he was known) played in more games than anyone else in basketball history and was named to the All-Star team on nine occasion.

2005 Celtics Roster

The players on this year's Celtics roster have a tremendous legacy to liver up to, but they might just be talented enough to pull it off. Leading the 2005 Boston Celtics will be forward/guard Paul Pierce. During the 2000-01 season, Pierce became the first Boston player since Bird to score more than 2,000 points in a season, a feat he repeated in each of the next two seasons. He has scored more than 12,000 career points during seven NBA seasons, all of them with the Celtics. Joining him on the 2005 roster are Ricky Davis, who was third on the team in scoring last season averaging 16.0 points per game, and Raef LaFrentz, who started 80 games for Boston in 2004 and averaged 11.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. It will be up to these men and their teammates to carry on the Celtic legacy. Only time will tell whether or not they can be successful.
